The Search Function: Why Finding Channels Is Harder Than It Should Be

You know the channel exists. You've watched it before. But you can't find it. You scroll through 40,000 channels. Nothing.

The search function in most IPTV apps is terrible. It searches channel names. Not EPG data. Not categories. Just the name.

A UX-aware British iptv reseller will recommend apps with good search. And they'll teach you how to use search effectively.

The British iptv service I use has a "search tips" guide. "Search for partial names. 'Sky' not 'Sky Sports Main Event.' 'BBC' not 'BBC One London.'"

A search-ignorant IPTV reseller UK never mentions search. They assume you'll scroll forever.

Here's how to search effectively in popular apps:

TiviMate: Press the search button (magnifying glass). Type partial names. Use the "search EPG" option to find what's playing now, not just channel names.

IPTV Smarters: Search is in the menu. Again, partial names work best. Smarters also searches categories if you enable it.

Perfect Player: Search is basic. Channel names only. No EPG search.

OTT Navigator: Best search of all. Searches channel names, EPG data, and categories. Highly recommended.

If your app's search is bad, here are workarounds:

Use your reseller's channel list. Some resellers provide a PDF or web page with all channels listed by category. Find the channel there, note its number or name, then find it in your app.

Ask in the group chat. "What group is Channel X in?" Someone will know.

Create your own index. Once you find a channel, add it to your favourites. Never search again.

Use a different app. If your current app has terrible search, switch to one with better search. Your reseller's service works with many apps.

I switched from Smarters to TiviMate partly because of search. TiviMate's EPG search is a game-changer. I can search for "football" and see every match playing now across all channels.

Search matters more than most people realise. You might know your 20 favourite channels. But what about that documentary you heard about? Or that film someone recommended? Search helps you find new things.

If you're constantly frustrated by your app's search, try a different app. The same IPTV service works with many apps. You're not locked in.

A good reseller will recommend apps based on your needs. "If search matters to you, use OTT Navigator. If stability matters more, use TiviMate." That's helpful advice.

Ask your reseller for app recommendations based on search quality. Their answer will tell you how well they know their ecosystem.
